Everyone who owns a car and drives has to pay in some way, shape or form. If you own a car, you have to pay for insurance, gas, and up keep of the vehicle. However, what about people who only drive when they have to, such as to the doctor or grocery store? These people may not drive very much and yet they still pay for full time insurance. Today, insurance companies are testing a pay as you drive insurance program that would cut the cost of insurance for these people and allow them to pay based on how much they drive.

Premise of Paying as You Drive

The idea of paying as you drive is relatively simple: you pay insurance for the number of miles you drive. However, there may also be other forms of the plan that include paying based on when you choose to drive or where you drive. These plans are usually based on one of three types of plans:

Odometer Reading: this plan bases the cost of the insurance on the reading of the odometer which tells the insurance company how many miles the car has been driven.

Data Collection: This type of plan bases the cost of the insurance of various information that is collected from the car, including time the car traveled, the speed of the car and where the car was driven. This can be determined using a GPS type device that is installed on the car.

Time Driven: This type of policy bases the premium on the amount of time the car is driven. This can be found using radio frequency devices that are installed on the car of cell phone data that alerts a home-base when the car is driven.

These types of plans can be edited and changed to collect data that may change the billing, such as who is driving or how long the car was in movement without stopping, an indicator that the driver could be driving beyond safe time limits without resting. As these plans are tested, insurance companies and consumers will provide input that will help to tweak them. The idea is for people to only have to pay for the true amount of time they need to drive and not be penalized when they don’t drive much.

Benefits and Drawbacks

As with any program, there are pluses and minuses that will need to be considered. Some of these are outlined here for consideration:

Drivers will be more responsible and drive less when they don’t need to in order to save money;

Consumers have more choices and are not forced to buy cookie-cutter insurance policies;

Insurance companies can better identify risk and thus align their policies better;

Drivers pay for their insurance based on their driving record not the overall record of their peers – for example, a young driver who is responsible and drives safe would benefit from a lower rate. Typically, young drivers all pay higher rates simply due to a consensus that young drivers are high risk.

This type insurance encourages safe driving in order to get lower policy rates.

GPS is used to collect data and since it is already being used for navigation and safety purposes, consumers receive dual benefits from one technology.

The downside is that this type of insurance is looking at future risk rather than past risk. For instance, a driver may have a bad driving record and yet not have higher premiums because of the plan looking at how they are driving in the here and now. This is a double-edged sword since the insurance companies are taking a risk and the insured is getting a deal.

Some of the GPS and RFS systems that are needed to track the information my constitute breach of privacy laws.

Budgeting could also be difficult. For instance, if the family budgets x amount of dollars for car insurance and then drives a lot more than anticipated, they could wind up with a financial emergency.

These are some of the most commonly noted negatives and positives surrounding these new types of insurance plans. More studeies re needed to make a final determination on the plausibility of widespread implementation of usage based car insurance.

Implementation

Currently, usage based insurance is in the beta testing phase in many countries including the US and the UK. In the United States there is a federally funded test being conducted in Washington. If testing proves successful and beneficial for consumers and insurance companies, this type of insurance could one day be an option, particularly for people who only drive when they need to go to the doctor or other appointments and are financially strapped when it comes to paying for car insurance.

Pay as you drive insurance or car insurance based on usage is a good idea in theory; whether or not it will work out to become a reality for everyone remains to be seen.

Traveling around the world for business and pleasure can be fun, exciting and expensive, particularly if you have to hire a taxi every time you need to go somewhere. Renting a car and driving yourself around can be much less expensive and provide you with more freedom to go where you want to, when you want to, without reservation. However, do you need to understand and have international driving insurance to protect yourself and your finances should you have an accident in foreign country.

Should you be involved in accident in a foreign country you don’t want to have to try and figure out their legal system and become involved in a chaotic mess. Purchasing international insurance for driving will help you to get through the accident with ease and be back on your way home.

Getting Around in Foreign Countries

Many people are afraid of driving in foreign countries because they are afraid they will get lost and they don’t know the rules of the road in the country. However, if you regularly travel or you can read a map, you can benefit from driving yourself in many ways. In addition to saving money, it is fun to drive around in a new place and see sights that you might not see if you used a taxi or stayed in walking distance of your destinations.

If you choose to drive in a foreign country, you should make sure that you have adequate maps and some type of guide that will tell you the rules of the road so that you can make sure you are following the law. You should also find out what type of international auto insurance is acceptable and make sure you have the appropriate coverage before you hit the roads.

International Policies

International driving insurance polices allow you to drive in any country and have auto insurance; however, you are still required to make sure you are following each particular countries rules and regulations which may include having additional insurance that can only be purchased in that country. You should find out these things before you travel to the country so that you aren’t caught unawares and wind up in trouble with the law.

Passenger Insurance

Passenger insurance is a little known part of international travel insurance that travelers should be aware of and consider purchasing, even if you aren’t going to drive. In many countries, passengers in taxis are not covered by the taxi drivers insurance. This means that if the taxi is in an accident and you are hurt, you are responsible for your own health care costs. However, international driving insurance has an available option that covers passengers.

Finding International Driving Insurance

You can find international auto insurance through many of the larger insurance companies or by researching the Internet and using specialized car insurance companies that offer car insurance for travelers. You should, of course, check with your current insurance company, they may be able to provide what you need or send you to a company that they work with to get you insured.

In addition to contacting your insurance company, you should also contact the US Embassy in the country you are going to visit so that you can get all the information you need about driving in the country. The embassy should be able to provide you with a handbook or guide for driving,

Additional Insurance

When purchasing international driving insurance you should ask about additional insurance such as an umbrella policy to cover any added expenses that could arise due to an accident, such as transportation to get back to the United States or added costs involved with fees or expenses that the other party may incur if you are found to be at fault in an accident.

It is much better to have more coverage than necessary when driving in another country to make sure that you are fully covered and can’t be held in the country until someone can send you the funds you need to get home.

Driving Permits

In addition to having international driving insurance you should also make sure you have the necessary driving permits to be able to drive. Some countries will allow you to drive temporarily using your US driving license; however, this is something that you will need to find out before you take your trip. If you need a permit for the country you will need to find out what is required in order to obtain one and then get it before you start driving.

International driving insurance is a form of protection that every driver who visits foreign countries should consider mandatory, even if the country doesn’t’ require it. This will provide a peace of mind that should the unexpected happen and you find yourself at an intersection within a fender bender with a local resident.

Having a glass or two of wine with dinner doesn’t seem like it could lead to a DUI. However, the blood alcohol level that indicated being under the influence has changed dramatically. This means that depending on you body’s metabolism, two glasses of wine could cause you to have a blood alcohol level that reads as intoxicated. If this happens, there is a snowball effect that will ultimately affect not only your driving privileges but ultimately the cost and availability of car insurance.

If you receive a DUI you will find that your insurance options change dramatically. The information contained herein will hopefully be enough to make you reconsider that second glass of wine or at least wait until you get home to have it.

Rate Increase

Although the rate increase might not be seen immediately, when the insurance renewal period comes up it will go up in price drastically, if the company will even continue to offer insurance. Some car insurance companies do not cover DUIs and so you might have to find another company.

Additionally, depending on the state that you live in, you may be required to carry special insurance that is for people who have DUIs on their driving record. If this is the case, the insurance premium you pay will go up immediately, you won’t have the luxury of waiting for the renewal .

The amount that the insurance will increase varies from state to state and from company to company. If you have one DUI on your record you could see anywhere from a 30% to a 50% percent increase. If you have more than one, you can count on the increase being on the high side.

Length of Penalty

Once you have a DUI on your driving record you can count on it being on there for varying amounts of time, depending on what state you live in, it can be as short as a few years all the way up to a life time. For example, DUIs stay on your driving record for 10 years in California but forever in Alaska. This also means that your insurance rates will remain high for the entire time that the DUI is on your record. The bad news is that there is no in-between period when rates are decreasing, they stay high until the DUI is gone.

What Can Be Done

All hope is not gone. Yes, if you get a DUI you will have higher rates and your current insurance company may cancel your policy. This doesn’t mean that you can’t get car insurance, it simply means that you will have to do your research and find a company that offers insurance for high risk drivers.

There are auto insurance companies that specialize in DUI and other high risk cases. These companies can give you a better rate and possibly even set up payment options that make it easier for you to pay for your insurance. These companies know that some people simply made one bad decision and that they need to be able to drive to get to work.

The First Step

If you have a DUI there are some steps that you should take as soon as possible after receiving the ticket. The first one is to contact an attorney, You will most likely need an attorney to help you maneuver the legal system and help you understand the laws in your state. In some states you are required to surrender your driving license as soon as you are ticketed for drunk driving or at the least provide proof of DUI insurance. An attorney can help with this step by asking that you be granted a provisional license until your court date.

You should also start pricing insurance plans for DUI and high risk drivers. If you plead guilty or are found guilty you will need to have this to be able to drive. You should start out checking with major insurance companies and narrow it down to specialized companies in order to get a broader array of prices. Depending on whether it is the first offense or not, you may be able to find reasonable prices with the bigger companies or you may have to go with specialized companies.

If you have the unfortunate luck to have more than one DUI, you are going to have a more complicated process. You will need to take extra steps to show that you are serious about keeping your driving priveleges such as seeking treatment options. You may not have a problem; however, if you show the court that you are controlling your drinking you stand a better chance of leniency.

Ultimately, you should never drink and get behind the wheel of a car; however, with the blood alcohol level for intoxication being lower than ever, it is possible to get a DUI and not be obviously drunk. Should this happen, you will need to find an attorney and good insurance for DUI offenders.

Driving is one of the highly anticipated milestones in a young person’s life. They can’t wait to get behind the wheel of the car and feel independent and free. Parents, on the other hand, often dread the day. They know that their young driver is going to need insurance in order to drive legally and they also know that driving insurance for young drivers is typically higher than that of older, more mature drivers. There are some tips that can help find the best prices and relieve some of the stress involved in getting the new driver ready for the road.

Academics and Driving Insurance

Many automobile insurance companies have discounts for young drivers that have a high GPA (grade point average). This is a win-win situation for parents. The discount on the insurance is the first win and the added incentive for the student to maintain higher grades in school is the second win. This is one of the benefits worth asking about when shopping for car insurance for young drivers.

Drivers Ed or Training

Many states require young people to attend a drivers education course; however, if not, it is worth considering since most insurance companies offer discounts for people who have taken a driver’s education class or have attended driving instruction school. Many people know that this discount is available but didn’t realize that it also applies to young drivers. Many schools offer the class as part of the high school curriculum. If it is not offered, the cost of the school is usually not very high and is made up by the discounts that are offered on the car insurance.

Car Selection

It’s natural for young people to want impressive sport’s cars. They want to stand out and look cool; however, the type of car a young driver has will play a large role in the cost of the insurance. Sports cars are very expensive, particularly what are considered “muscle cars”, those with big engines that are meant for speed. Convertibles are also increase insurance premiums. Young drivers needs cars with safety features that are not considered sports cars, like small coupes. If they want a sporty car, they should wait until they are older and the premiums are less.

Family Policies

Another consideration that must be factored in is the family’s insurance. In some states, the young driver who still lives at home with their parents will automatically go on the parents insurance when they obtain their driving license. This means that the family insurance will increase which in turn means that the family insurance should be well researched and price shopped with this in mind.

This is especially true if the family has a sports car or other vehicle that would be a high premium for a young driver. The insurance may not be high until the young driver obtains a license to drive and then suddenly the policy skyrockets. Families should check their state insurance laws and their policy terms and conditions so that they are not caught unaware with a huge price increase.

Don’t Skimp

It is important not to skimp on coverage for young drivers. It might seem tempting to keep the cost of the policy down to simply insure them for the required amount; however, statistics show that new, young drivers are at a higher risk for accidents than most other drivers. If they are involved in an accident it is important that they have enough insurance to keep from being sued in court. If the young driver still lives at home, it is possible that a court suit could affect the family finances. In many states the law allows lawsuits to extend to parent if the person at fault is a minor living at home.

Young drivers need to have full coverage in order to be able to make repairs to the vehicle if they are in a fender bender. However, the key is to make sure the liability coverage is fairly high and that the medical coverage is high as well. These two areas will help protect family finances if an accident does occur.

Future Insurance

One of the best pieces of advice any new driver should heed is to keep their driving record clean. A clean driving record will help them keep their insurance costs down in the future as they move into adulthood. Speeding and reckless driving are the two most common incidents found on young driver’s records; DUIs are the next most common as they approach adulthood and are out with friends. These things can be detrimental to future insurance costs and should be avoided.

Using tips for purchasing driving insurance for young drivers will help find the best insurance at the best prices and allow them to spend time on more important things like learning the open road.

Driving instructors provide a valuable service, they teach new drivers how to safely operate a vehicle, the rules of the road and other things that drivers need to know. The driver has to let the student drive in order to learn and so the importance of having driving instructor insurance cannot be overstated.

Car Insurance

Everyone needs car insurance, not just instructors. Car insurance adds protection for the vehicle, driver and passengers in the event of an accident. Driving instructors need extra insurance for the cars they use to train new drivers. Driving instructor insurance has to cover the driver of the car when it is not the instructor and is the student.

This insurance should be separate from insurance that is used for personal driving as the two are somewhat different even though they share many of the same characteristics. Typically, driving instructor insurance covers the car, the instructor and the student driver but does not cover any personal belongings of the instructor. For instance, if the instructor used the car to pick up some personal things before work and left them in the car where they were damaged during a wreck, the personal items would not be covered.

Many driving instructors have their own business and so they may use the same car for driving instructions which makes it necessary for them to have either two policies or a clause that covers personal use of the vehicle so that they don’t have to worry about their personal belongings and things of that nature.

Driving Schools

Often, driving instructors work for a driving school and are covered by the school’s insurance. The school will have enough insurance on the cars they use for the student drivers to insure that regardless of whether or not the driver is the student or the instructor the car is fully covered.

Importance of Driving Instructor Insurance

Driving on today’s busy roads is difficult for the most seasoned driver. There are people on cell phones, road construction, and other distractions that can cause an accident any given minute. these obstacles and distractions are even more difficult to overcome for the new driver who has not learned to react quickly and is most likely nervous.

Driving instructors need additional coverage to offset these risks. Many of the accidedents that involve student drivers are minor fender benders; however, should a student driver have a serious accident, the instructor needs to know they have enough coverage to protect their personal assets from becoming part of litigation.

Other Reasons for Driving Instructor Insurance

Accidents are reason enough to make sure there is enough auto insurance on the car used to train students; however, there are other incidents that can occur without an accident being the cause. Auto insurance also covers fire, theft, vandalism and more. This coverage is important, particularly if the car is left in the school parking lot where it could be vandalized.

Liability is the required insurance in most states; however, driving instructors should consider adding comprehensive insurance to their policy. As stated earlier, student drivers tend to have more fender benders than the average driver and a comprehensive policy will help get the car repaired when these occur. It is worth the added cost to keep the vehicle in good condition longer.

Pricing

If you have a driving school or are considering opening one, you should shop around and compare prices on instructor insurance. The prices could vary greatly from one company to another. The first place to look would be the your personal auto insurance company. They may be able to provide the additional policy and give you a discount for having multiple policies with them. You should also find out about any additional discounts you can get to help bring the cost down. Some things that could provide discounts include:

Car safety features such as side air bags

Instructor having a clean driving record

Student’s being required to pass safety classes and more before being allowed to drive

There may be other areas that can offer discounts and help bring the policy rates into manageable means.

Occasional Use Insurance

If you are a driving instructor and use your personal car for your students you may be able to get driving instruction insurance as an add on to your current policy and save some money. You should discuss this with your auto insurance carrier before purchasing a completely new policy. This may not be the best option available, but, if the car is only used occasionally for instruction, it could be the most cost effective.

Driving instructors help to make roads safer by educating new drivers on how to manipulate the highways and byways correctly. However, this also puts them and their car at a higher risk of being in an accident and so they need the added protection driving instruction insurance brings to the car and driver.

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of buying a new car. However, if you don’t have insurance for the car, the thrill can suddenly turn into a nightmare if the car lot won’t let you take delivery of the car. Typically, cars that are finanaced must have car insurance before they can leave the dealership. So, what do you do if you have your dream car but haven’t gotten around to the the insurance yet? Drive away insurance is the answer that will solve your problem.

What is Drive Away Insurance

Drive away insurance is an auto insurance that is only in place for a short period of time, usually between one and twenty-eight days. This type of temporary binder allows the car to be legally and safely driven until a permanent policy can be selected and purchased. This period of time lets you shop around for the best car insurance policy rather than having to take the first one you find simply to have insurance.

Restrictions

Because drive away insurance is a temporary insurance, it has more restrictions than regular coverage car insurance. These restrictions are for the protection of the insurance agency who is taking a bigger risk than permanent insurance companies. Some of the restrictions include:

Age: Most agencies that have drive away policies have a minimum age. This age varies from one agency to another but is typically 23.

Driving Record: People with a history of driving incidents in the past year may not qualify for drive away insurance.

Background: Some drive away insurance agencies check backgrounds to make sure there are no felony incidents such as theft or drugs. These agencies have to make sure they are dealing with legitimate drivers who are simply needing time to get a full policy in place.

Vehicle: Many drive away agencies have certain vehicles they won’t insure or that they specifically insure. For example, some drive away agencies specialize in antiques and show cars and insure them for the time it takes to get them from one place to another.

Limitations: The policy will have more limitations on what it covers than a full policy will and so you need to read it carefully and understand what is and what is not covered. For instance, drive away insurance does not typically cover anything that happens if the vehicle is being used for something other than what the driver listed when the policy was purchased, such as a business trip when the policy states recreational use.

These are just a few of the requirements that an agency may have. Each agency will have their own criteria along with state laws that they must follow.

Who Needs Drive Away Insurance?

It may sound strange to think about buying a car insurance policy that only lasts for one or two days. However, this is the perfect type of policy for many people or scenarios, such as:

Buying a car in another state and driving it home. You need a temporary policy to drive it home so that you can get it fully insured;

Buying a new car and not having insurance before the purchase. Drive away insurance lets you make your purchase and then find a policy you want permanently.

Taking an show car to a show. If you don’t drive your car and have it stored but then decide to take it to a car show, drive away insurance is the ideal way to insure the car.

Buying a car at the auction: If you are thinking of reselling the car or simply don’t know what you are going to do with it and you need to get it home, drive away insurance can help you out.

Borrowing or lending a car: If you are going to drive someone else car while yours is in the repair shop, a drive away policy can provide you added protection. On the other hand, if you are going to lend your car to visiting family, they can purchase a drive away policy to cover their driving time.

There could be many more scenarios that would be ideal for using drive away insurance. It is a convenient way to get insurance on a car in a hurry for a short period of time.

Better Alternative

Drive away insurance is a better alternative than risking driving without insurance, regardless of how short or long the trip is or how long the insurance is needed. Many people think that a few miles from the auction to their house won’t hurt anything; however, accidents can happen anywhere, anytime. It is much better to be safe than sorry.

If you need insurance for a few days or a few weeks, drive away insurance is the answer you need. You can rest assured that you will be legal and safe until you have full insurance on the vehicle.

If you have ever been in a car accident you know that one of the first questions asked concerns your car insurance. It is also one of the first things a new driver learns as they start out in the world of driving is the need for insurance. Many newly licensed drivers wonder if they can drive without insurance. The answer is hot as simple as yes or no and will be explored in the information herein.

State Requirements

Most states have laws concerning car insurance that must be followed. In some states there are specific insurance types that every driver must have, typically liability. Some states may also have minimum coverage amounts in order to legally drive. If you live in these states then your answer would be yes, you do have to carry car insurance.

If you choose to drive in these states and do not have auto insurance you are leaving yourself open for legal and financial troubles. If you are stopped for any reason and you don’t have proof of insurance you will be fined and if you received multiple fines, your driving privileges can be suspended. Many states won’t issue a tag for an automobile if the owner doesn’t show proof of insurance when they register the car.

On the other hand, there are some states that have an alternative to car insurance. This alternative is a rather large fee that is paid to be able to legally drive without having to carry car insurance. However, if you are involved in an accident and you are at fault you will be in a financial nightmare.

Accidents and Insurance

Car insurance is designed to protect you in the event of an accident. If you are in an accident, there are many different financial obligations that having insurance can help with, including:

Car: If your car is damaged and needs to be repaired, your insurance may cover the damages, if you have the right policy options, such as comprehensive. If the accident is your fault, your insurance will also cover the other parties car.

Medical Bills: Many car accidents come with injuries, some quite extensive. The cost of medical car can be devastating; however, car insurance has medical coverage up to the amounts you specify when you purchase the policy.

Lost Work Time

As you can see from these items, car insurance helps to cover the financial aspect of car accidents. If you choose not to have car insurance you can be sued and lose much more than the cost of an insurance policy.

Special Insurance

If you are asking about not having insurance because you think you can’t afford it, you should realize that you can’t afford not to have it. If you have special situations that make you a risky driver and you need help with affordable insurance, there are many agencies that specialize in risky drivers. Some of the scenarios that might warrant the need for a special auto agency include:

DUI – Drivers with DUI’s on their driving record typically pay a much higher premium which often makes them simply driver without insurance. In an effort to help prevent this, there are many car insurance companies that specialize in DUI drivers and offer options for making them legal.

Multiple Wrecks and Reckless Driving Records: Driving records that have gotten out of hand due to wrecks or speeding tickets can cause insurance costs to skyrocket. Rather than have drivers on the road that have no insurance, some companies have programs that help drivers with bad records obtain insurance.

Instead of trying to skirt the law and drive without insurance, you should do the necessary research and find options that will allow you to drive and be protected.

Budget for Insurance

Instead of having to ask if you can drive without insurance you should make sure that you have included it in your budget. You can find reasonable car insurance at many insurance companies and if you simply have to get the basics in the beginning, its still better than not having any insurance. The cost of not having insurance can be much more expensive than the insurance policy would be. If you look around, you can find companies that will allow you to make monthly payments and possibly even start out with no down payment.

Asking if car insurance is necessary should not ever be a question that is asked. If you choose to drive without car insurance you are putting your car, your home and your assets at risk. It only takes one accident to send a person into bankruptcy court if they don’t have insurance. If you think you are a great driver and you won’t have any accidents then you should still consider the other five million drivers on the road that can cause an accident. If they happen to not have insurance, the insurance you have will take care of your car and medical bills. Simply, put, why would you even consider driving without insurance?

Insurance for driving cars is considered a requirement in practically every state. Car insurance is a necessary part of life if you plan to drive a car and don’t want to have your personal assets attacked in a lawsuit in the event of an accident. Purchasing car insurance is something that should be taken seriously with all options considered before the final decision is made on a policy. The tips included herein should provide a good starting point.

Coverage

One of the first things you should do, before you even start looking for quotes, is to decide how much coverage is needed. There are several factors that should be taken into consideration when coming up with an amount, including:

State Requirements: Every state has different requirements when it comes to car insurance coverage. Some states have policy minimums and certain types of insurance that must be carried, such as liability.

Car Value: If the car is new you should have full coverage, including gap insurance to help cover any shortages should the car have to be totally replaced. If your car is older you may want to opt for less coverage. The idea is to have enough insurance to fix or replace the car should it be involved in an accident.

Drivers: If you have young drivers in the home you may want additional coverage due to the additional risk factors.

Once you know how much coverage you think you need you can start researching insurance companies and what they have to offer.

Driving Record

Some of the questions on the automobile insurance policy are about your driving record. These questions are also used to determine the cost of the insurance. It is a good idea to get a current driving record that all of the answers are accurate. It doesn’t pay to stretch the truth on these questions because the insurance company will obtain the records and then adjust your policy accordingly. If you have the information correct from the beginning you can get an exact quote and not be surprised with increases down the road.

What to Compare

It is important to make sure that you compare the same things on every policy that you research. Keep a list of the companies that you research with the answers that you find during your research. Some of the things that should be compared include:

Annual cost and payment options available

Benefits offered, such as AAA roadside service

Discounts available, such as age, safe driving, or multiple policies

Once you have made your comparisons you will be ready to talk to the agents that work for the ones you like the best or that have the best rates.

You should be prepared to ask the insurance company questions to help you decide which insurance company is the best one for your needs. Some of the questions you should ask include:

Does the company have 24-hour customer service in the event of an accident?

What is the average length of time it takes to get an adjuster for an accident?

How long has the company been in business?

Are there local agents and offices (if you found the company on the Internet)?

Your car insurance is a form of protection for you and your family and you should be very particular about choosing an insurance company and policy.

Where to Find Insurance Quotes

If you have determined how much auto insurance you need and are ready to move ahead with the research and choosing of a company, there are many different places that you can get insurance quotes such as:

Internet: This is one of the best places to start and then if you want to talk to a live person you can call the company you choose. There are many websites that offer insurance quotes from multiple companies with only one application to complete. This lets you see many prices and packages at one time.

Phone book: This takes much more time than the Internet but is still considered an option by people who don’t use the Internet. You have to call each company and ask them for a quote. You should be prepared to answer a lot of questions before you can get a final quote.

Friends and Family: Ask friends and family members where they have their cars insured and if they are satisfied. Follow up with calls or visits the insurance company’s websites.

These are a few of the methods you can use to find insurance companies and get quotes on a new insurance policy.

Insurance for driving cars protects you, your car and family and other people on the road as well from being destroyed financially as the result of a car accident. The coverage should be carefully chosen with all possible scenarios factored into the research.

One basic requirement that you will need to fulfill if you ever plan on legally driving a car would be making sure that you have proper drive insurance coverage. Car insurance is a legal requirement because it will make sure that you are protected should the event of any accidents take place. Not only will repairs to other cars be covered, but you will have monetary protection against property damage and even injury to other people. It is very important to have this protection, so much so, that you can find yourself in a great deal of trouble if you are ever pulled over and cannot prove that you have this coverage.

There are basic state requirements for basic auto insurance. Depending on which state you live in, you will need to make sure that you provide yourself with enough liability insurance to be able to successfully drive your car within the confines of the law. Different insurance agencies will be able to help you determine what exactly those legal state requirements are. This can make your basic car insurance be varying amounts of money based on the specific amount of coverage that you need.

Drive insurance agencies come in a number of different formats. Some are nationwide insurance companies that can often offer you a number of different coverage plans based on the state requirements. Since these agencies will typically handle a number of customers, finding the minimum car insurance needed is not difficult. They will know the state requirements for your type of insurance and they will help you figure out the least amount of money that you may legally need to pay. This will give you just enough liability insurance to cover your bases and can help make your monthly insurance payments as low as possible.

Other insurance agencies will be locally owned and operated. They may have a better knowledge of the legal state requirements because they are dealing with your specific area on a day-to-day basis. This situation will commonly end up giving you a high level of personal service because the local insurance agents will have a working knowledge of the auto coverage and liability insurance needed for your particular area.

This doesn’t mean that you will need to opt for the minimum car insurance plans, however. You may wish to have a better level of coverage, one that will pay even more should an accident happen. More coverage can be given to the vehicles involved as well as property damage or liability insurance for injury. This will raise your monthly insurance payments, but it will also greatly pay off in the event that something should happen. Typically, as well, something will usually happen within the lifetime of the average American. Whether you are at fault or someone else hits you, most drivers will experience a car accident at some point within their lifetime.

You may be an excellent driver who feels that they don’t need insurance. This may be the case, but you can never tell when an accident is going to happen. Even if the other person is at fault, you will still get into legal trouble if you do not have proper insurance coverage. While the amount of auto coverage that you are going to need will vary with every state, you will need to make sure that you are protecting yourself as much as possible, even if that means getting drive insurance at the minimum level.

Finding the best liability insurance for your needs can still be important, however. It gives you the opportunity to shop around and figure out what auto coverage agencies are going to give you the best rate of coverage for the smallest amount of money. Sometimes, some agencies may have a higher auto price in the beginning but will offer greater reductions as time goes on and you are not involved in any accidents. Many times, insurance companies will offer deals where the longer you go without being involved in an auto accident, the more they will reduce the amount you pay in monthly insurance payments. Being a good driver will pay off, especially when you have liability insurance through a strong insurance company which is known for treating its clients well.

Auto coverage should be considered important for more than just the legal state requirements, however. Drive insurance is important because you never do know when an accident may happen. These accidents tend to cost a great deal of money and that is true even when people don’t end up getting hurt. If something serious happens, you will never be able to handle the financial responsibility on your own. Drive insurance may be the only way to safely protect yourself and ensure that you are going to always be covered against the risks that can be associated with driving.
